          John A. Diaz practices in the areas of Federal and State Criminal Defense and Family Law. Mr. Diaz has represented clients in Federal Courts in Manhattan and White Plains, on charges of Sex and Human Trafficking, Conspiracy to Distribute Narcotics, Gun Trafficking, Use of Fire arms in furtherance of a conspiracy, Hobbs Act Robberies, Fraud, Tax Fraud, Racketeering, and Asset Forfeiture.

            On the state level, Mr. Diaz has represented clients on felony and misdemeanor charges, including: Attempted Murder, Robbery, Assault, Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Falsifying Records, Identity Theft, Criminal Possession of Controlled Substances, and Driving While Intoxicated. Mr. Diaz’s diverse experience includes representing clients on multimillion-dollar mortgage fraud cases and state tax evasion charges.

            Mr. Diaz also has the privilege of representing children as a member of the Attorneys for Children Panels of the Appellate Divisions’ First and Second Departments, where he represents children who have been abused and neglected. He also has vast experience in representing children on Juvenile Delinquency matters. Mr. Diaz values his role as advocate for our most vulnerable citizens and uses the opportunity to serve as a mentor for at risk youth. He is also a volunteer at Covenant House and serves as a fundraiser for their cause of helping homeless youth.

            Prior to being in private practice, Mr. Diaz was an Assistant District Attorney in New York County under then District Attorney, Robert M. Morgenthau, were he served as Unit Supervisor of Trial Bureau 50’s Gambling and Vice Unit and was also a member of the Identity Theft Prosecutions Unit. As a Manhattan prosecutor, Mr. Diaz prosecuted cases of Attempted Murder, Sexual Abuse, Assault, Driving while intoxicated, Robbery, Grand Larceny, Domestic violence related offenses, Burglary and Criminal Possession of Controlled Substances.  As a member of the Identity Theft Unit, Mr. Diaz prosecuted cases involving corporations such as American Express and Office Depot, involving losses of hundreds of thousands of dollars, and numerous victims.

            Early in 2013, Mr. Diaz was one of seven criminal defense attorneys, among over 120 applicants, selected to the prestigious Federal CJA Mentoring Program in the Southern District of New York, where he received mentorship and training from some of the best Federal Criminal Defense attorneys in NYC.   Subsequently, Mr. Diaz earned the distinction of being only one of two attorneys out of this group to ulimatley be appointed as lead counsel for defendants in the Sourthern District of New York.

            Mr. Diaz obtained his law degree from the City University of New York School of Law, were he was the recipient of the Revson Public Interest Award and was a Puerto Rican Bar Association Scholar. During Law School, Mr. Diaz served as a student intern at both the New York County District Attorneys Office and the Bronx County District Attorneys Office. Mr. Diaz obtained his undergraduate degree from Hunter College, where he graduated Cum Laude and was selected to be one of twenty students to participate in a seminar conducted by former President Bill Clinton.

            Mr. Diaz has suffered personal tragedies and has overcome severe adversities in his own life, and will always display empathy and patience when analyzing the facts and issues of your case.
